The Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (Hidco) will get all kinds of Korean assistance to develop New Town as a green city.

KOLKATA: The Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (Hidco) will get all kinds of Korean assistance to develop New Town as a green city.
A Korean delegation recently came to the city and met Hidco officials. Hidco signed a memorandam of understanding with South Korea’s Handong Global University in presence of senior state government officials and officials of the Korean Embassy to have knowledge based exchange of ideas. The Korean delegation will also give technological assistance to Hidco with their expertise to develop green cities across the state.
Earlier, the state government back tracked from the Centre’s Smart City scheme even after New Town got selected in the Centre’s smart cities list.
Apart from New Town, three other townships – Salt Lake, Haldia and Durgapur was also earlier shortlisted by the state to get included in the smart city scheme and these areas also will now be developed as green cities. Besides, the six proposed Theme Township projects of Kalyani, Bolpur, Dabgram, Asansol, Dumurjala and Baruipur has already been included in the green cities mission.
